Competition Search - Once you have compiled a list of keyword phrases, you need to see how easy it will be for you to rank well for those in the search engines. The easiest way for you to do this is to search for these keyword phrases in quotes on Google. This will give you a basic view of the actual competition for that particular keyword. If you have a very large list of keyword phrases, you may want to purchase a program in order to do a mass search for all of your keywords in order to check competition quickly.
Analyzing the Competition - You should now be to the point where you can begin to analyze your competitor's websites, especially those that are involved with search engine optimization. See which keywords they rank well for and then take a look at their pages to see how they optimize for that particular keyword phrase. By doing this, you will not only get an idea of how you should optimize as well but you will be finding dozens of other keyword phrases that you may not have thought about before. The more you dig, the deeper you will go.

Of course, you can purchase software which will make this process a lot easier but if you enjoy hunting for treasure, this can be an enjoyable process for you.
